About This Pub

Ah, Spirit Of Endeavour – it's one of those classic pubs in Boston that tries to do the whole community thing right, with staff who genuinely make you feel welcome, like you're part of the gang from the get-go. I've heard from folks that when everything clicks, the food's a real treat, using fresh ingredients for things like those sizzling skillets and burgers, and it's all at prices that won't sting your wallet. Plus, they're big on giving back, offering their space for local events, which is just lovely for keeping things neighbourly. But, let's be straight, it's not perfect – some mates have mentioned long waits for meals, even when it's quiet, and the food can be hit or miss, with complaints about overcooked bits or cold chips that take the edge off the fun. The atmosphere doesn't always live up to the hype either, feeling a bit subdued on quieter nights. Overall, if you're after a relaxed spot for a catch-up with friends or family, it's worth a punt, but maybe keep your expectations in check and go on a day when the stars align for the best experience.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly welcoming and friendly, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in – it's like chatting with old mates behind the bar.
  • When the food hits the spot, it's spot on; think tasty dishes like sizzling skillets and flame-grilled burgers, all made with fresh ingredients at honest prices.
  • It's a proper community hub, supporting local charities and offering their function area for free, which is brilliant for gatherings or just popping in for a relaxed vibe.
  • Being inexpensive, it's a great spot for everyday meet-ups without breaking the bank, especially with those daily offers that add a bit of extra value.
Cons
  • Food can take ages to arrive, even when the place isn't busy, which might leave you twiddling your thumbs and wondering if it's worth the wait.
  • The quality isn't always consistent – some meals turn up overcooked, raw, or stone cold, which is a real shame when you're looking forward to a good pub grub.
  • Atmosphere can feel a bit flat at times, lacking that lively buzz you'd expect, making it less ideal for a buzzing night out.
  • Service varies; while some visits have top-notch staff, others fall short with minimal attention, leaving you feeling a tad overlooked.

We were greeted politely and sat down immediately. The food took way over an hour to come and the pub was empty. There was no atmosphere and when the food arrived my dons burger was overcooked and not aesthetically pleasing on the eye. My fish was very tasty. This was probably one of my worst experiences at this place as it's normally quite good.

I came for a meal with my family on the 5th may, the manager on shift, his names is James, was very welcoming upon our entry and seated us at a lovely big table. We were a big group but all of the food came out together and was absolutely delicious, the bar staff and floor team were very friendly and went over and beyond to help us with any queries. There didn't seem to be many staff in but they were all working very well together and helping each other out, it was great to see such comradery between them all. Would definitely recommend this place to others and will be coming again!

We’ve been visiting this pub monthly for the past six months when in the local area, and until now, both the food and service have consistently been excellent. Unfortunately, our most recent experience was highly disappointing and fell well short of expectations. During our visit last night, we were informed of a delay in food service, which we understood—but what wasn’t made clear was that this would extend to nearly two hours. When the food finally arrived, one of the seven dishes was completely cold, while the others were only lukewarm and lacked the usual quality we’ve come to enjoy. We brought the cold dish to the attention of the front-of-house staff, who responded quickly and took it back. However, after another 20-minute wait, the steak was returned still cold, incorrectly cooked, and with a noticeable film over the sauce—suggesting it had been reheated in a microwave. While the plate itself was hot, the food clearly wasn’t. We also observed that several other tables were experiencing similar issues and returning food due to it being cold. Disappointingly, there was very limited acknowledgment or engagement from the on-site managers about the situation. This experience was a stark contrast to the excellent standard we’ve come to associate with this pub. We hope this feedback helps prompt a review of recent service and kitchen performance.

Food took 45 mins to arrive, when it did arrive the only thing on the plate that was hot was the chips. There was no customer service. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

Went for a meal at the Spirit of Endeavour last night, it was probably one of the worst meals we’ve had in recent history, the steaks were raw even though we asked for medium and couldn’t even be cut with a steak knife they we so tough, the chips were all stone cold, 2 of the meals were incomplete and the Xmas platter of sides was just a tray of over cooked batter covered mess, the “pigs in blankets” had no Bacon and were just cheap cocktail sausages that appeared to be microwaved. We asked to see the manager, after about 20 minutes a young girl came over and offered us free 1 pudding (between 4 of us) as a sorry, because by this time we had already eaten the bits that we okay which amounted to about less than a quarter of all the food. Turns out she wasn’t even the manager, the actual manager didn’t have the decency to even come over. I’m really disappointed as we go there often, but we’ll never go again.
