About This Pub

You know, I have to say, the Red Lion in Prestwich has really turned things around and become one of those pubs you'd happily recommend to your mates. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the staff and landlady are just lovely, always up for a chat and making sure everyone feels welcome, which is such a breath of fresh air compared to how it used to be. The beers are spot on too – that Joseph Holt bitter is a proper treat, and they've got a great range to choose from, especially with those special offers like deals on ales and ciders that make it even more appealing for a casual pint. It's got this huge beer garden and loads of space inside, plus it's dead dog-friendly, so if you're out with your furry friend, it's a winner. The entertainment side is brilliant as well, with live sports and karaoke nights that can turn into a right giggle, though I'll admit, not every singer's a star, and it might get a bit noisy at times. On the flip side, it does have that over-21s rule, which keeps things more relaxed but means it's not for everyone, and if you're reminiscing about its rougher past, well, it's come a long way, but echoes of that might still linger in some folks' minds. All in all, it's a solid spot for a laugh and a drink, and I'd say it's well worth a visit if you're in the Manchester area – just go with an open mind and you'll have a great time.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff and landlady are absolutely brilliant – so friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • They've got a fantastic selection of Joseph Holt beers, like their award-winning bitter, which is always spot on and never disappoints.
  • It's got a massive beer garden and plenty of space, perfect for a relaxed catch-up with mates, especially if you're bringing your dog along since it's so pet-friendly.
  • Loads of entertainment on offer, from live sports on Sky and BT to karaoke nights that can make for a right laugh, even if things get a bit lively.
  • The pub's had a real turnaround, creating a safe and inclusive vibe that's great for all ages over 21, with traditional games like darts to keep things fun.
Cons
  • It used to have a bit of a dodgy reputation, and while it's improved loads, you might still hear stories from folks who remember the old days.
  • Karaoke evenings can be hit or miss – some singers are brilliant, but others might sound a tad off-key, which could put you off if you're not in the mood.
  • With the over-21s policy, it's not the best spot if you're looking for a family-friendly outing, as it might feel a bit exclusive to younger crowds.

Best bar staff and best land lady so clean and welcoming. So different from how i used to know this place. Used to feel unsafe and unwelcome but now the aptmosphere is so warm and so friendly! Would highly recommend!

Fantastic pub, the best bitter in Manchester is also served here. You'll never have a bad pint. Lisa and all the staff that work here are running the pub great. No idiots, just a friendly welcoming vibe. Everyone has a good laugh in here. They absolutely love dogs in here as well, so bring your dog out and let them get soiled with biscuits by Lisa 😂 The pub also has a fantastic outdoor space with seating so in the summer it's a great place to sit with a cold beer and play with your dog. I believe the pub is soon to have a refurb and it will get a fresh new look. I love coming here and I know many more do as well.

Such a transformation since Lisa took over. No longer do I feel unsafe. A great mixture of people of all ages. Fri nights are Karaoke nights and if you can put up with the occasional singer sounding like a pet shop on fire its a great nights entertainment. Overall the over 21s policy has transformed this pub. The amount that they do for charity is amazing I would definitely recommend this dog and child friendly pub to anyone.

First time I went in here last night as I knew it previously didn’t have the best reputation. However, Lisa the new owner which may I add is absolutely lovely, has stripped this pub right back put some rules in place and has started this again. I went in with a large group of my family & we just had an absolute ball, every single person in there was so lovely, not once did any of us feel on edge. I think people need to give this place another try and get it up and booming to what it actually deserves. Dj karaoke was spot on too! Staff are little diamonds. Next time I’m in that area again I’ll be looking forward to popping in. Thanks for a fab night xxx

Who needs choice when you’ve got well kept Holt’s Bitter like this? Fantastic wet led pub with friendly, efficient bar staff. A pleasure to drink here.
