About This Pub

Ah, the Portobello Inn – it's one of those pubs in Worcester that you stumble upon and think, 'Why haven't I been here sooner?' From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the place does a cracking job with its food; imagine tucking into hearty Sunday lunches or well-priced mains that leave you satisfied without breaking the bank. The staff are absolute gems, always up for a chat and making everyone feel right at home, which really adds to that cosy, welcoming vibe. Plus, with a beer garden for those warmer evenings and being dog-friendly, it's ideal for a laid-back get-together with friends or family. On the flip side, though, it's not all smooth sailing – a few folks have mentioned waiting far too long for their meals or struggling to get served at the bar, even when it's quiet, which can take the edge off an otherwise lovely visit. Overall, if you're after good value and a friendly atmosphere, it's worth a punt, but maybe plan for a relaxed outing rather than something quick.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and really make you feel welcome, like you're chatting with old mates.
  • The food is spot on – think generous portions of tasty pub grub, with highlights like moist chicken and perfectly crispy chips.
  • It's got a warm, welcoming atmosphere that's perfect for a relaxed catch-up or family meal.
  • Loads of drink options, from cocktails to craft beers, and you can enjoy them in a cosy spot or out in the beer garden on a sunny day.
  • Dog-friendly and family-oriented, with events and offers like 30% off mains that make it great value for money.
Cons
  • Service can be a bit slow at times, with some folks waiting ages for their food even when it's not too busy.
  • It's not uncommon to struggle to catch a staff member's eye at the bar, which can put a damper on things.
  • A few experiences mentioned long waits for simple orders, making it feel a tad frustrating if you're in a rush.

Me, my partner and kids went here for dinner and the food was standard although we had to wait for practically an hour for our food to come out. Very rarely seen any staff about behind the bar so was a struggle to actually catch anyone to speak to. We waited for about 15 mins to try catch someone to ask to order pudding but didn’t see anyone to ask so I popped my head in the kitchen door to ask if anyone was working out in the bar to order pudding, the lady kitchen staff as very rude with a reply of I don’t know I’m working in the kitchen but said this with a snotty attitude. Probably didn’t like that I stuck my head in the kitchen door but I had to to get to see a member of staff. Didn’t end up ordering pudding after that poor response. Safe to say will never go back there again and will be telling people not to waste their time with this place.

The service was extremely slow and we were the only ones in the restaurant, we had to wait an hour! After inner I'd promised my little boy a desert. I waited at the bar and nobody came so sat back down and waited some more. There were no staff serving or about! My partner then knocked on the door next to the bar and asked if there was anyone about to help. The rude kitchen assistant just shouted, I don't know I'm in the kitchen and shut the door. We then left and went to macdonalds for our deserts. Absolutely awful experience that ruined my mother's day treat.

Just back from eating here for the first time after it kept popping up on my timeline. So glad I found this place, a lot of choice, great prices, and the food was outstanding. The chicken was moist and the chips were cooked to perfection, crisp on the outside and fluffy in the middle. Service was lovely too. Will definitely be back soon.
