About This Pub

Ah, the Melville – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem in Manchester. From what I've gathered from the reviews and the website, it's got this warm, inviting atmosphere where you can kick back with a pint of their excellent Joseph Holt beers or try out the gins and rums. I love how they've got a spacious beer garden for those nicer days, and it's spot on for families or groups wanting to catch live sports on the telly or even have a go at darts. The food gets high marks too, with generous portions and affordable specials that make it easy on the wallet. On the flip side, though, the self-service approach means you're on your own for ordering, which could be a bit of a nuisance if you're after more hand-on service. And while the darts area is fun, the lighting isn't quite up to scratch, so you might end up squinting a bit. Overall, it's a place that does the basics brilliantly and keeps things lively, but it's not without a few rough edges – I'd say it's worth a visit if you're in the area for a no-fuss, enjoyable night out.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The beers are absolutely spot on – they've got a fantastic range of lagers, real ales, and even a carefully crafted gin and rum menu, all served in a proper pub setting.
  • It's got a really welcoming atmosphere; from the moment you walk in, it's like everyone's glad to see you, with friendly staff and a warm, community feel.
  • The beer garden is a brilliant spot, especially on a sunny day – it's well-kept and bright, perfect for a relaxed pint outdoors.
  • Loads of entertainment options, like live sports on big screens with Sky and TNT, regular events, and even a darts area for a bit of fun while you wait for your match.
  • Family-friendly vibes make it great for popping in with the kids, and they've got decent food portions with specials that keep things affordable.
  • Two function rooms available for hire, which is handy for events, and they've got some cracking deals like Fizz Friday for Prosecco lovers.
Cons
  • The lighting in some areas, like the darts section, could do with an upgrade – it might leave things a bit dim, which can spoil the game a touch.
  • It's more of a self-service setup for food and drinks, so if you're after attentive waiting staff, you might find yourself having to get up and sort things out, which isn't everyone's cup of tea.
  • It has that classic old-school boozer charm, which is lovely, but it might feel a tad traditional for those seeking something more modern or fancy.

Nice old school boozer. Crystal and diamond lager. Nice dedicated area for darts. 2 boards, great on match night for a bit of practice whilst waiting. Raised oche, unicorn eclipse boards. Lighting could be a bit better as one board used one of those arch lights. Leaves the bottom slightly dull. Electronic scoreboard. Decent pub for darts 👌 🎯🎯🎯🎯

As soon as you open the doors there’s a warm welcoming..seems like from everyone! The bar staff were super friendly and the same with the chef who popped out to say hi. I took my mum out for food and a few drinks. We had fish and chips..followed with sticky toffee pudding..The food portions were spot on and very tasty..Got what I asked for. I will definitely be returning.

If I'm honest, I wasn't digging the vide. Staff seemed nice and there seems to be a real local feel to it I.e. most of the people knew each other. I'm not sure if it is a thing here in the UK but no lounge staff. You are left to fend for yourself. If u want food then ask, if u want a menu then go get one from one of the tables. I know that sound bad but I don't mean it like that. It depends on your expectations. I did not end up getting food cause I was just not feeling it. Nice looking place and lots of TV screens. I plan to go back and get it a proper chance. Overall I think there is potential but need to give it a second chance.

This pub was fantastic, its great team and Steph the new manager were all welcoming. The pub looks great and has lots of booths and areas if you want to have a more private time or indeed if you want to send the lads to watch the footie there’s a room for that too! Lol The food was perfect, I only had a burger but it was cooked perfectly and I almost didn’t finish it all! And the prices were so reasonable! Defo worth a visit especially if there is a dj or karaoke on this pub caters for everyone. Well done to the whole team
