About This Pub
Ah, the March Hare in Bishop Auckland is one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local spot, you know? I really appreciate how the team there puts in the effort to make everyone feel at home – think cheerful chats and managers checking in to see if you need anything extra. They've got a cracking menu with loads of choices, from hearty mains to lighter bites, and those special offers like 30% off make it even more appealing for a casual get-together. The beer garden is brilliant for soaking up the sun with a drink in hand, and it's great that they welcome dogs and host family events, which adds to the fun atmosphere. On the other hand, it's not all perfect; I've heard a few tales of food coming out overdone, like bacon or onion rings, which can put a damper on things after waiting around. And if the bar's short-staffed, you might find yourself queuing a bit longer than you'd like, or even getting vague answers about menu options. All in all, it's a solid choice for a relaxed outing, but I'd say it's best to go in with realistic expectations and maybe stick to what you know works well.
Pros and Cons
Pros

The staff are absolutely brilliant, always going out of their way to make you feel welcome with their bubbly personalities and attentive service.
-
There's a fantastic selection of pub grub on offer, with something for everyone, plus tempting deals like 30% off mains to keep things affordable.
-
The beer garden is a real gem for sunny days, perfect for relaxing with friends, family, or even your furry companion since it's dog-friendly.
-
It's got a lively, family-friendly vibe with fun events that make it easy to create great memories, whether you're popping in for a quick snack or a full meal.
Cons
-
Food quality can be a bit inconsistent at times, like when things come out overcooked, which might leave you disappointed after a long wait.
-
Service at the bar can sometimes drag on if it's busy, with only one person serving, making it feel a tad slow when you're eager for that pint.
-
The staff aren't always clued up on every detail of the menu, which can lead to a few uncertainties when you're trying to decide what to order.

Popped in for some food after picking my partner up from work. Greeted by Luke Hudson, very happy bubbly character, really went out of his way to make us feel welcome. Food was brought out by John the manager, he asked if there was anything extra we needed. He remembered I'd asked about extra dressing for my salad before and went the extra mile to check I was happy with it or if I needed more. 5 stars for being made to feel like a valued customer.

Food wasn't. I had the Hunters chicken baguette & my hubby had vegetarian sausages in baguette.
I left majority of my baguette roll.
The bacon & cheese was overdone.
The onion rings overdone too.
The vegetarian sausages tasted ok.
Cost £18.87
£7 for 2 pint Pepsi.
Nice relaxed atmosphere in the pub.
Lots of parking. Has disabled parking bays.

Called this afternoon for the childrens fancy dress disco, it was amazing!!!!
The new manager John Nicholson went all out even joining in the fun and games with the children dressed as a minion which everyone loved, then personally thanked all families for coming.
The staff and service are excellent.
The food is reasonably priced and excellent quality, the kids meals are by far great value as portions are sized according to age/appetite.
We will definitely return!
Good food and drink, service was good, waited a little bit at bar to order food as there was only one person serving, asked what's the difference between an extra large Sunday roast (extra 2 squid) and a normal size, lad didn't know so asked kitchen, answer was extra slice of Beef and extra Yorkshire pudding (i recieved 2 decent slices of beef and 1 Yorkshire pudding) so would be interesting to see a standard meal and extra extra large side by side for reference. Anyway, like i said, starters were nice, and Sunday roast was nice. Better than Toby Carvery (Carlisle).

We visited the March Hare for my Mother in Laws birthday. It was the first time we had visited. We were looking for somewhere new to make memories. The menu was great for us as we knew that it had something for everyone. Some of us had a main meal and a few had starters for main meals. It was not a problem to be able to do this. The staff were very kind and friendly and nothing was any trouble to them. They are very accommodating. The March Hare is very clean and tidy. We felt comfortable where we were sat but we know it wouldn't have been a problem if we wanted to move seats. My daughter is visually impaired and it was great for her as it was well lit she could read the menu. The music was at an appropriate level to listen to whilst enjoying time having your meal. We ordered food for 8 people and it came out swiftly and all together. Nobody was missed out and the changes we asked for to the food were given. The food was hot and tasty. The cutlery and tables were clean and tidy. We all had dessert and they were gorgeous!!! Especially the blood orange brownie with ice cream !!! Overall a very clean, tidy, spacious, friendly and welcoming establishment. We are definitely coming to visit again on my daughters birthday. We are looking forward to it and we have recommended you to all our friends and family. Thank you and see you all soon.
