About This Pub
Ah, Mambo Wine and Dine – what a gem in South Shields! I've got to say, it's one of those places that just hits the spot every time, with their fresh, handmade dishes that scream quality and care. Whether you're tucking into a Sunday roast or sampling their Italian specials, the food's always spot on, and the portions are so generous you'll be talking about it for days. The staff are an absolute delight, making you feel like you're catching up with old friends rather than just grabbing a bite. It's family-friendly too, which is brilliant if you're out with the little ones, and the atmosphere in that VIP Lounge upstairs is perfect for a special do. On the flip side, though, those big portions might leave you feeling a bit overwhelmed if you're not in the mood for a feast, and the opening hours can be a touch unclear, especially on Sundays, so it's worth double-checking before you head over. All in all, it's a solid choice for a night out – the good far outweighs any small niggles, and I'd happily recommend it for a proper, enjoyable evening.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food is absolutely top-notch, with fresh, handmade ingredients that make every dish feel special and full of flavour – perfect for a proper Sunday lunch or trying out their Italian menu.
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, always ready with a warm welcome and helpful service that makes you feel right at home.
-
It's great value for money, with generous portions and reasonable prices that leave you satisfied without breaking the bank.
-
The atmosphere is lovely, especially in their VIP Lounge for private parties, and it's a brilliant spot for families or groups with a simple yet appealing kids' menu.
-
Being family-owned, there's a real passion behind everything, from the extensive wine list to the stunning surroundings that make for memorable experiences.
Cons
-
Portion sizes can be a bit overwhelming for some, like when you're stuffed after just a starter and can't finish your main – might be too much if you're not ravenous.
-
The opening times seem a tad inconsistent based on what's listed, which could lead to a bit of confusion if you're planning a visit on a Sunday.
-
While the food is fantastic, a few folks mentioned minor niggles, like perhaps not everything being to taste in every dish, though it's not a major issue overall.

We eat here as often as we can as a group and with family. It's our top pick for Sunday lunch and we have been everywhere...always top quality. Puddings too all great. We have just been tonight for Italian menu got the chicken skewers. Chicken breast with Dianne. Garlic breads . Mambos special king prawn lamb chicken 10 out 10 we had a lovely night. Staff all very good and hospitality great from all. Fully recommend for both main menu and Sunday lunch. Our top pick.
Been here many, many times and never have I been disappointed. The staff are friendly & attentive. The food is always great and great surroundings. Reasonably priced and good value for the food. Gets 5 stars from me everything.
Food is beautiful. Mouthwatering options on the menu and great prices and restaurant is stunning. Will be a returning again and again
Great place - very unassuming from the street but this turned out to be a great find as somewhere to go out for tea with the family! Kids food was perfect - appreciate the kids menu being simple but with something for everyone! I had the lamb tagine - completely stunning - what I will say is that there are some attention to details that were missed leaving us feeling like this was a less than perfect experience - in terms of service - however the venue/food and staff were all great 👍🏽
The good bits: Very generous portions and very yummy. I’m 52 years old and I couldn’t finish a soup + child’s portion of the Sunday roast pork dinner. Meat was moist and tasty and the gravy was spot on. Even got a generous portion of apple sauce and steamed veges. Staff was polite and helpful.
Suggestion for improvement: When one / some diners in a group order starter / soup and the others opt to go straight for the main course, it would help to ask if those who order only main course would like their main course to be served right away, instead of them waiting for those who order starters to finish. Otherwise they are kept waiting until those who order starters / soup finish. Perhaps it’s an English restaurant custom but I prefer the North American approach where diners have a the option to get their main course right away. It was a bit embarrassing to realize halfway through my soup that my co-diners weren’t eating because they were waiting for me to finish my soup. :)
Anyway.. excellent spot.
