About This Pub
Ah, the Lord Byron – it's one of those pubs that really captures the heart of what makes a great local. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the staff and owners go above and beyond to create that genuine, welcoming feel, with folks raving about the hospitality and how it harks back to the good old days of pubs. You've got a solid lineup of cask ales and drinks to choose from, plus all the live sports on the telly, which is brilliant if you're into your footie. The beer garden's a nice touch for when the weather's on your side, and being dog-friendly means you can bring the furry friend along without a fuss. It's packed with original features from its Victorian roots, mixed with a bit of modern comfort, and the games like darts and pool add to the lively atmosphere without it feeling overwhelming. On the flip side, it might take a bit of effort to find if you're new to the area, and the fact they don't have a phone number could be a slight annoyance if you're trying to sort something out quickly. Still, with its handy location near the station, it's well worth seeking out for a proper, no-fuss pint and a chat – I'd say it's a solid choice for anyone looking for that authentic pub experience in Macclesfield.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The welcoming atmosphere is just spot on – you'll feel right at home from the moment you step in, with friendly staff and locals making everyone feel welcome.
-
They've got a fantastic selection of cask ales and a well-stocked bar, perfect for anyone who appreciates a good pint.
-
It's dog-friendly with a lovely courtyard beer garden, complete with a relaxing water feature, ideal for enjoying a drink outside on a sunny day.
-
Loads of traditional games like darts, pool, crib, and dominoes keep things lively and fun, especially if you're up for a bit of friendly competition.
-
They show all the live football on BT Sports and Sky Sports, so it's a great spot to catch the match with mates.
-
Tucked away in a historic part of Macclesfield, it's conveniently close to the train station and town centre, making it easy to pop in after a wander.
Cons
-
It's a bit of a hidden gem, so you might have to hunt it out if you're not familiar with the area, which could be a minor hassle.
-
No phone number available means you can't give them a quick ring if you need to check something, so emailing or checking online is the way to go.
-
Opening from 12:00 each day might feel a tad late for early birds or those wanting a morning tipple, wrapping up at 22:00 as well.

Lovely local pub, how pubs use to be, good beer
A friendly 4 room pub, with friendly locals and welcoming staff.
Dogs are welcome and there's a nice wee patio beer garden outside.
Nipped in as my son lives around the corner and he's always fancied going in. What a gem of a local, corner pub. Great staff and lovely traditional style pub. Will definitely return
This little pub is amazing!!!!
Very welcoming to new customers as they're always made to feel very welcome.
There is and open fire which is very welcoming coming in from the cold, there is a pool table and dart boards ( i say boards as there is more than one) and also dominoes.
To the outside a covered smoking/seating area and a little seating area with a little pond, which I very much look forward to sitting in, in summer months.
And last but certainly not least
