About This Pub

Ah, the Little Owl – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a breath of fresh air in Chester, you know? I've heard from loads of folks that it's spot on for a relaxed meal after a busy day, whether that's following a trip to the zoo or just nipping in for a midweek treat. The staff are absolute gems, always up for a chat and making sure everyone's sorted, which really adds to the homely vibe. Plus, with family-friendly touches like the play area and being dog-friendly, it's brilliant if you're out with the kids or your four-legged pal. The specials, like those burger nights and curry clubs, sound like a right laugh and offer solid value for money, and the beer garden's a winner for sunny afternoons. On the flip side, though, it's not all perfect – a couple of people mentioned the food being just alright on occasion, and there was that one disappointing visit where things didn't quite live up to expectations, which is a shame. Still, with an overall solid rating, I'd say it's worth giving it a go; just keep in mind it might be hit or miss on busier days. All in all, it's a solid choice for a good night out without the fuss.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • It's a fantastic spot for families, with a children's play area that keeps the little ones entertained while you enjoy your meal.
  • They've got some brilliant specials, like the Tuesday burger nights and Wednesday curry club, which offer great value and tasty options.
  • Being dog-friendly is a real plus – perfect for popping in with your furry friend after a walk.
  • The pub garden is lovely for soaking up the sun with a cold drink and some good food, especially on a nice day.
  • Prices are really reasonable, so you can have a proper meal without breaking the bank.
  • It's a great place for events, like parties, with positive feedback on buffets and overall vibes.
Cons
  • There have been a few mixed experiences with the food; one person found it just 'okish', so it might not always hit the mark.
  • Based on one review, service or the overall experience can sometimes fall short, leaving you feeling a bit let down if things don't go smoothly.
  • It seems like it could get busy, especially after days out like at Chester Zoo, which might mean waits or a less relaxed atmosphere at peak times.

We have now visited the little owl twice whilst on holiday. Both times we had a visit to Chester zoo, and after the little owl. It's the perfect place to relax and have a lovely meal after a long day! Couldn't recommend it enough. The staff are also very friendly!

Stopped here on the way back home to Stockport. Cute little place. Staff are lovely. The food was okish but the price was good. Nice beer garden too!

A Disappointing Experience: Not Worth the Visit My partner and I were looking for a cozy pub to enjoy a meal and decided to stop by this place after seeing it from the outside. The exterior looked inviting, and we were hopeful for a pleasant experience. However, from start to finish, it was far from what we expected. Upon entering, we were greeted by a man and woman who seemed friendly enough, but things quickly started to go downhill. We were shown to our table without being informed about how to order—whether it was from the bar or table service. After a few minutes of confusion, we noticed a QR code on the table and assumed we'd need to order ourselves, which was fine, but the lack of clear communication was off-putting. We both opted for the beef roast dinner and, to our surprise, it arrived at our table in less than 10 minutes. However, things continued to disappoint. When the food was served, I asked if we could have our drinks, and the server curtly replied that they would be brought by the "bar team." I was taken aback by the response and confused, especially when she then brought them over with little enthusiasm, making it clear she wasn’t exactly thrilled about her job. But the real letdown came with the food. The roast dinner was, without a doubt, the worst I’ve ever had. The beef was almost entirely fat, the broccoli was overcooked and hard, the stuffing was a dense, rectangular block, and the gravy had a watery consistency that completely lacked flavor. To top it all off, no one checked in with us during the meal to see if everything was okay, which further added to the feeling of neglect. We left the restaurant feeling thoroughly disappointed and, quite frankly, disgusted. We certainly won’t be returning and would not recommend this place to anyone. A pleasant exterior doesn’t make up for poor food, lacklustre service, and an overall unpleasant experience.
