About This Pub
Ah, Kennedy's Bar – it's one of those unpretentious spots that just hits the spot for a laid-back evening. From what I've gathered from the reviews, the real highlight is how friendly everyone is; whether you're a regular or just popping in for a quick one, you get that genuine northern hospitality that makes you feel like part of the gang. The beer selection, especially the proper cider on tap, gets a big thumbs up, and it's got that classic working pub charm that's perfect if you're after a no-nonsense pint and a good natter. On the flip side, though, it's a bit of a shame they don't do food anymore – just some crisps and nuts if you're lucky – so if you're planning a full night out, you might want to grab a bite beforehand. The drinks menu is pretty straightforward too, sticking to fizzy options without much in the way of craft brews, which could leave some folks wanting more variety. All in all, it's a solid choice for a casual visit in South Shields, especially if you fancy a traditional vibe without the frills, but it's worth knowing what you're getting into for the best experience.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff and locals are incredibly welcoming, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.

They've got a great selection of proper cider on tap, which is a real treat for anyone after a refreshing pint.
-
It's a classic traditional pub with a friendly vibe, perfect for enjoying good beer and a bit of chat.
-
The place is clean and well-kept, which always makes for a more enjoyable visit.
-
With its 4.2 rating, it's clear that folks appreciate the straightforward, no-fuss atmosphere here.
Cons
-
They don't serve any proper food, just basic snacks like crisps and nuts, so you'll need to eat elsewhere if you're peckish.
-
The drink options are a bit limited – mostly fizzy pump beers, with no craft ales or IPAs to choose from, which might disappoint some.
-
The operating hours seem a tad inconsistent from what's listed, so it's worth double-checking before heading out.
-
It feels very much like a local spot, which is lovely if you're in the area, but it might not have that extra buzz if you're looking for something more lively.

Great pub, made to feel welcome. Just what we needed after a long day's driving from Cornwall. Plus, the added extra of proper cider on tap.
Went there last night on a recon mission. Spoke to the locals about the area as I was thinking of moving there. Everyone was super friendly. They don't serve food, haven't done so in 20 years. Crisps and nuts are behind the bar.
BUT I grew up here and know some of the punters. Freindly reception. Good service. Great beer. A traditional working man's pub.
Stranger in town and called in for a quick pint; decent pint, friendly staff and clean pub - recommend 👍😁
Great pub, especially for Niantec Ingress and Pokémon and Wizards players. Unfortunately no visible craft ale, craft IPA, or craft cider, such a shame, just fizzy pump beer. However you can sit in the bar and rotate between all three Niantec games as I made the bar an Ingress portal a few years ago.
