About This Pub

Ah, Katie O'Brien's in Leicester – it's one of those places that really captures the spirit of an Irish tavern, isn't it? I mean, you've got this fantastic live music scene where the singer has the whole room up and dancing, and it's just lovely to see folks from all walks of life having a laugh together. The atmosphere on a Saturday night is proper lively, with everyone joining in, and the beer prices are fair enough that you can enjoy a few pints without worrying too much. But, fair warning, it's not all pints and party tunes; some of the security can be a bit heavy-handed, which has left a few folks feeling on edge, like they're waiting for trouble. Service drags on occasion, which is a shame when you're in the mood for a quick round, and while the drinks are solid, they don't exactly stand out from the crowd. All in all, if you're after a bit of craic and don't mind overlooking the odd flaw, it's a top choice for a night out – just keep your wits about you and you'll have a grand time.

  • Decent beer prices that won't break the bank, making it a great spot for a casual night out.

Cons
  • A few of the security team can come across as aggressive, which might put a downer on your evening.
  • Service can be a bit slow at times, even when the place is buzzing.
  • The live entertainment isn't always spot-on – it can be just average on some nights.
  • The drinks selection is fairly standard, without anything particularly exciting to offer.

Would not recommend coming here based on the “bouncers” alone. They are extremely aggressive and actively look for a fight. I attended here with some friends this weekend (3 females, 2 males) - a female friend walked in wearing the hat, absolutely no problem. Maybe half an hour later my male friend started wearing the hat and the bouncer straight away told him to remove it, again not a problem he removed it straight away. When we left (around half hour later) the bouncer followed us down the street and started shouting at my male friend, making threats of violence when he had peacefully left the building and hadn’t spoken to the bouncer since he removed the hat. We kept trying to walk away but the bouncer (and now another bouncer) were following us down the street. It was extremely unnecessary, aggressive and has isn’t the first time I’ve seen these bouncers do this - upon my previous visit a few months ago I saw the bouncers fist fighting with other customers. The bouncers here are clearly on a power trip and I would not recommend anyone to go here, it’s not worth the risk of being the bouncers choice of prey for the night.

A rather lively place with a fun smorgasbord of live entertainment on my first Saturday night visit. Dolly birds a-go-go and groups of over-imbibed groups trying unsuccessfully to sing along and dance at the same time. Although wobbly, the natives were very friendly indeed. The place to go if looking for early doors fun with an Irish twist.

Came here a late Sat afternoon, had some live music on which was good and was busy. Drinks wise prices and choice of drinks fairly standard nothing special. Service was slow but a male staff member did see we were waiting a while and came served us. Was a good atmosphere though with the guy singing.
