About This Pub
Ah, the Horse and Farrier – it's one of those pubs that really grows on you once you step inside. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the food steals the show; we're talking fresh, homemade meals that taste like they've been whipped up with real care, and at prices that won't leave you rummaging for loose change. The outdoor space is a proper treat too, ideal for soaking up the sun with the family or just chilling out with mates. The staff often come across as genuinely friendly, adding to that homely feel you'd expect from a good local spot. But, let's be straight, it's not all pints and cheers – there have been a few grumbles about the younger bar staff not quite nailing the customer service side of things, like being a bit unresponsive or needing a nudge to get things sorted. Still, with most folks raving about it, I'd say it's worth popping in for a go at their grub and brews, just keep an eye out for those little niggles and you'll likely have a cracking time.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food here is absolutely brilliant – fresh, homemade dishes like salt and pepper chicken pizza and steak sandwiches that are packed with flavour and come in massive portions, all at decent prices.
-
They've got a fantastic outdoor space that's perfect for families, with plenty of room for kids and adults to enjoy, especially on a sunny day with all-day sun in the beer garden.
-
The staff can be really friendly and chatty, making you feel right at home, as one reviewer mentioned with Damian behind the bar.
-
It's a welcoming local pub with a great range of drinks and products, fairly priced, and the overall vibe is warm and inviting.
Cons
-
Some of the younger bar staff could use better customer service training, as there have been instances where they've seemed unhelpful or unresponsive.
-
Based on a recent review, there might be inconsistencies in service, which could put a dampener on an otherwise enjoyable visit.
-
It seems like discipline among the team needs tightening up to ensure everyone pulls their weight, avoiding any awkward moments at the bar.

This is a pity, but luckily very easy to fix.
The most junior / youngest bar staff need customer service training and there needs to be discipline from the other staff in ensuring this is respected.
Two examples:
- Young lady behind the bar was doing nothing for a while and then told me she couldn’t serve because she was underage (rudely).
Next day she was serving so I wished her a happy birthday and her confusion wasn’t unexpected. Either lazy or working underage.
Third day another young lady charged me for a beer and I asked why it was different price than the day before, before realising I’d had a different one. The lady and her friend from above point turned to one another and rolled their eyes and shook their heads in disgust. Bizarre.
Final visit of the Xmas period I came in and ordered a beer and one of the two was again leaning against the back and rolled their eyes whilst trudging over to pour a beer. I saved her the trouble and politely cancelled the order and left.
Toilets desperately need a spruce up.
Didn’t try the food but I noted other customers asking the bar for cutlery and the staff asking customers to get it themselves from a tray. (They later told me the bar and the kitchen are separate. As a customer, I think that’s irrelevant.)
Decor in the main part of the pub is nice.
Very young crowd which is good to see but could be at risk of turning into a turnoff for others who aren’t young.
All feedback is intended constructively.
Love it here, not the closest pub to us, but definitely become our local. Decent prices on food and drink. Great outdoor space for kids and adults. Always warm and friendly.
Food is AMAZING and very well priced! Can tell it's fresh and homemade. We had the salt and pepper chicken pizza and the steak sandwich with some proper beer-battered onion rings! Massive portions. Great outside area and service was very quick. Damian the bar man was very friendly and chatty. Highly recommend. Will definitely be back!
Had a trip to Greenbooth with Boothroyd as he fancied a pub lunch on a hot Summer Wednesday afternoon. Neither the White Lion nor The Bridge Inn were doing food. Had spotted this pub on the way so returned here. Three ales but as Booth was driving he had a shandy. Some outdoor seating at front but lots to the rear on two sides of a bowling green. Small car park also to rear. The righthand room needs a refurb...the other side near the toilets is nicer. There is a rear Pool room. Had a lovely Haddock but the hand cut chips were not as crispy as I like. Booth had a spicey burger and fries which was really good.
Fabulous local pub! Great range of products, fairly priced with amazing, knowledgable staff! Food is delicious and came quickly. Will definitely be returning soon! - bonus - good beer garden with all day sun!
