About This Pub

Ah, the Hollybush – it's one of those neighbourhood gems in Wolverhampton that really pulls you in with its warm, cheerful feel. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the staff are just fantastic; they're efficient and genuinely welcoming, like they're chuffed to have you there, which makes popping in for a bite or a pint feel effortless. The food menu is a proper treat too, packed with hearty pub favourites, stonebaked pizzas, and even some cracking grills, and most folks rave about how tasty and plentiful it is – especially with those limited-time deals like 30% off mains, which add a nice bit of value. Plus, the beer garden's a lovely spot for soaking up the sun with a cold drink in hand, and it's great for families or catching the big games on the telly. On the flip side, it's not all perfect; I've heard a few tales of dodgy meals where things like chicken or steak didn't quite live up to expectations, leaving some feeling a bit let down. The noise from the bar can also be a nuisance if you're after a quiet chat, and while the prices are reasonable overall, they might seem a tad steep for the area, so it's something to bear in mind if you're watching the pennies. All in all, it's a solid choice for a casual night out, but like any pub, it's best to go in with realistic expectations – the good days far outweigh the bad, and it's worth giving it a go for that friendly local charm.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are absolutely lovely and make you feel right at home with their friendly and helpful service – it's like chatting with old mates behind the bar.
  • The food is generally spot on, with generous portions of pub classics, pizzas, and grills that hit the spot, plus they're running tempting offers like 30% off mains for great value.
  • It's got a cracking atmosphere, whether you're chilling in the beer garden on a sunny day or watching live sports inside, making it a top spot for all sorts of get-togethers.
Cons
  • There have been a few reports of inconsistent food quality, like one disappointing mixed grill that was overcooked and rubbery, which could put a dampener on your visit.
  • The bar area can get a bit noisy, especially if you're after a peaceful meal, as it sometimes spills over into the dining space.
  • Prices might feel a smidge high for what's on offer in that part of Wolverhampton, so it's worth keeping an eye on your wallet.

We brought our kids football team from Liverpool for a tournament. There was quite a few of us and we were accomdated very last minute! Maisie and all the other staff we dealt with were extremely friendly and helpful! The food was delicious and all the staff were so welcoming! If we came to Wolverhampton again we would definitely come here again! Thank you for looking after us!

Absolutely delicious. I couldn't take photos of the other meals as the family were half way through them. Highly recommended. Great service, friendly staff, great prices. Thank you

Edit from march 2025: After another refurbished I decided to try here again with my family and the food was barely edible, I had a mixed grill where only the chips were properly cooked, the chicken was easily boil in a bag, steak was like rubber, gammon and sausage was black, the peas and mushrooms were boiled... it's just not worth coming here. Edit from 20th November 2022: My mum and I decided to go and try the newly refurbished pub as its local to us. I highly recommend you go to the springhill just around the corner instead. We entered the building to not be greeted for a few minutes until the bar staff said hi and a guy in a sports cardigan, unbuttoned polo and joggers came along and said 'ill just check the tables' and walked away and came back a little later to take us (walk-ins) to the back of the resturant surrounded by tables with kids (it happens, but oh well). We then found out after an amount of time waiting that the pub is now order at the till and we decided to have steaks as they are a pretty good way to gage how good a pub is for food. Asked for medium rare, we definitely got medium at the least, loads of chips, cheap, covered in oil, onion rings were cooked but had uncooked batter still and raw onion, definitely frozen. Frozen peas and fresh uncooked tomato also. When the staff came to take the plates away they almost took my mums half full gin and tonic too! There is a few new waiters and the one we got was nervous so maybe they haven't been trained enough also. We left without ordering dessert. Please go to the springhill instead if you want good food. Start of 2022 review: I used to go here when it was 2 for 1, and it was a great cheap meal out for a large group with plenty of choice. They removed the 2 for 1 and then became low quality for expense, now changing hands a couple times, it is finally a pretty decent pub meal at a good price. I had a mixed grill and i was surprised at the amount of food for the price, and it was all cooked exactly how it should've been! And the deserts have always been great! Great aura, wheelchair friendly, great service, definitely expect pub meals though, but with some good cocktails !8

Attended on a weekday, dining area pretty empty, staff welcoming on arrival. Good portion sizes and food was flavourful. Did feel it was a little over priced for the location. And the bar seems to attract a noisy bunch, so it’s good now that is closed off to dampen the noise. Don’t think I’ll attend in a hurry but it serves a purpose when visiting family locally.
