About This Pub
Ah, Hilly House in Dudley – it's one of those pubs that feels like a proper local gem, you know? I've popped in a few times, and the staff really stand out; they're chatty and attentive, making every visit feel welcoming, especially if you're after a quick pint or a catch-up. The beer garden's a real highlight – imagine sipping your drink under heaters when it's a bit nippy, or enjoying the fresh air on a sunny day. Prices are spot on for a casual night out, so you won't feel like you're splashing out unnecessarily. On the flip side, it's a tad frustrating when the kitchen's closed or certain dishes are off the menu, as that means you might end up skipping the food altogether. Still, when they do serve up grub like those fresh beef burgers, it's spot on and worth the wait. All in all, it's a solid choice for a relaxed evening with mates, but I'd say it's best to check ahead if you're hoping for a full meal – that way, you can plan for the good times without any surprises.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are absolutely brilliant – friendly, helpful, and make you feel right at home, like chatting with old mates over a pint.
-
They've got a cracking beer garden with heaters and a covered area, perfect for enjoying a drink outdoors even when the British weather decides to play up.
-
Drinks selection is spot on, with options like a smooth Guinness, and it's all at inexpensive prices that won't break the bank.
-
The pub has a warm, welcoming vibe with a clean and well-maintained space, ideal for catching up with friends or enjoying a bit of friendly competition.
-
When the kitchen's up and running, the food gets rave reviews – fresh, tasty meals like beef burgers that leave you wanting more.
Cons
-
The kitchen can be closed more often than we'd like, which means you might miss out on a proper meal and have to stick to drinks only.
-
Some menu items are frequently unavailable, which is a shame as it limits your choices and could do with some sorting out.
-
With an overall rating of 3.8, it's solid but not outstanding, suggesting there might be room for improvement in consistency and service on busier days.
-
It's a bit of a pity that a pub in such a great location hasn't nailed down a regular chef, as that could really elevate the experience.

Live in Dibdale St and used to go down fairly regularly but not been for a while.
Nice pint of Guinness and for a Marstons pub in a prime location off of Himley Road, it is criminal they do not sort out a regular chef as surely, Marstons and especially the great people that run the place are losing out on so much footfall.
Sort it out Marstons!!!
Called in for a quick drink at lunchtime today. Good selection of drinks to choose from. Tom , served us and was knowledgeable and helpful…….. very friendly!
Would have had something to eat but the kitchen is closed for the time being. Hopefully they’ll be serving food in the not too distant future.
I visited the hilly house and the staff was amazing, they even asked about my day. really comforting pub with amazing funny people, I had the beef burger and it was amazing it even came with fries and onion rings. Couldnt even ask for more. really recommend with family and freinds. drinks are fresh and cold from the draft.
Visited the Hilly House today, had great service and amazing encounters with a staff member named Tom, so friendly and polite would definitely recommend for a quick pint, or even a meal as their food is superb and made fresh while you wait. Tom took my order, and answered every question I had, couldn’t have had a nicer experience. Loved it
Very nice and friendly pub, clean and well maintained. Food was excellent. This pub has come a long way from what it used to be. Some of the menu items were unavailable, this happened on a few visits but the menu items that they did have were of very high quality indeed, will eat here again 100%
