About This Pub
So, I've been having a look at Havana, that bar down on South Parade in Whitley Bay, and it's got a bit of a mixed bag going on. On the bright side, the place has this really inviting atmosphere with nice decorations and a great spot in the area, perfect for a casual night out. The staff come across as friendly, and if you're into 90s tunes, there are moments that sound like a proper laugh, especially with that free entry option if you've been to the nearby Brewery bar – it's those little touches that make it feel welcoming. But, let's be honest, it's not all smooth sailing. There have been some nasty incidents, like something happening in the toilets that didn't get sorted out properly, which is a real shame and makes you think twice about going. Plus, the management doesn't seem to be on top of things, with noise complaints and a bit of chaos when they shut up shop at 2am. With an overall rating hovering around average, it's clear some folks have had a brilliant time while others haven't, so if you're heading there, maybe go with a group and keep an eye out – it's worth weighing up if you're up for a late-night adventure, but definitely not without its flaws.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The atmosphere is really inviting with great decorations and a solid location right in the heart of Whitley Bay, making it easy to pop in after exploring the area.
-
Friendly staff and a fun 90s music vibe that can get you up and dancing, especially if you're in the mood for a nostalgic night out.
-
It's a budget-friendly spot, and you might snag free entry if you've got stamps from nearby places like the Brewery bar – that's a cheeky little perk!
Cons
-
There have been some worrying safety issues, like an incident in the toilets that wasn't handled properly by the team, which could put a damper on your evening.
-
Management seems a bit lacking, with complaints about noise and rowdy behaviour when they close up at 2am, disturbing folks trying to sleep nearby.
-
The music isn't what it used to be, according to some regulars, and it's only open a few nights a week, which might not suit if you're after something more regular.

The music in the past was so much better
Got two stamps on the wrist at the nearby Brewery bar and then gained free entry to the club! Didn't buy a drink, but loved the 90s music vibe. The kids (more than 20 years younger) just stayed on their phones whilst I danced.
We are visiting Newcastle from the midlands. My girlfriend was attacked in the toilet by someone we did not know. We alerted the manager who said he was sorry but made no actions against it. My girlfriend has concussion and she suffers with anxiety. Her hair has been ripped out and her new outfit torn apart. If you want to feel safe on holiday, please avoid Havana in Whitley bay.
Very poorly managed, horrendous racket when they turn out at 2am, noise worse than a school playground, screaming and shouting in an area with hotels where people are sleeping (or trying to!). What are security doing when all this is going on? This place really shouldn't be licensed.
Frankly speaking, it is one of the best in the North East, inviting decorations, friendly staffs, good atmosphere and location is great.
I have been there in May 2023 and have experienced sensational times.
