About This Pub

You know, I've had a few visits to the Harvester Plough in Chelmsford, and it's one of those places that just hits the spot for a straightforward, enjoyable meal. The food is spot on – think succulent rotisserie chicken, flavoursome grilled options, and that unlimited salad bar that's always fresh and tempting. From what I've seen in the reviews, the team there, like Dee and Sam, are absolute gems; they're polite, quick to help, and keep things running like clockwork, which really makes the experience. It's brilliant for families, with plenty on the menu to keep the little ones happy, and the outdoor beer garden is a nice bonus on a sunny day. On the downside, it does fill up fast, so you'd want to sort a booking to avoid hanging about, and being part of a chain, it doesn't quite have that one-of-a-kind feel some folks might crave. All in all, it's a solid pick for a hassle-free get-together, offering great value and a warm vibe without any fuss.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and efficient, always making sure everything runs smoothly and you feel welcome.
  • The food is absolutely delicious, with generous portions, tasty rotisserie chicken, grilled dishes, and that brilliant unlimited salad bar that's a hit with everyone.
  • It's a proper family-friendly spot, with a dedicated kids' menu and a welcoming atmosphere that makes it easy to relax and enjoy.
  • Convenient perks like free parking and a lovely beer garden make it a great choice for a casual outing, especially with nearby attractions to explore afterwards.
Cons
  • It can get really busy, so if you pop in without booking, you might struggle to find a table and end up waiting around.
  • As a chain restaurant, it sometimes lacks that unique local touch and feels a bit standard compared to more quirky independents.

first time we have visited this harvester as a midway point and had a excellent experience. waitress Dee was very polite and helpful. our food came out quickly, tables kept clear, swept the floor after the kids, the food made by Sam was fantastic. very fast and efficient service and will certainly come back again.

Had a lovely late lunch with daughter. Restaurant was lovely and quiet, which was perfect. Dee was our waitress and she was extremely friendly, helpful and informative about the menu. Asked if we had any allergies too. The food came out and was presented really well and hot, so thanks Sam, your presentation was great and tasted fabulous too. Thank you both very much, we will see you again soon. Catherine & Paris

Been here multiple times recently with my partner and child, every time the food has been generously portioned and cooked packed with flavour - delivered fast. The team are always smiley and attentive without being overbearing. I was a bit stressed and extremely thirsty when I arrived today, and was not on top form with how I communicated with the assistant manager. Yet he responded with grace and went above and beyond to ensure we were looked after. Hats off to this level of customer service and apologies for being a bit of a nuisance at the time!!!

I literally had to redo this review. The burger with fries was amazing. I don’t normally like chips, perfectly crispy on the outside, just how I like it, not too potato-y. The desert was phenomenal, unfortunately, I was full and was unable to eat of the desert - it was delicious. I want to come here again for breakfast one day. I recommend the dirty burger, and the strawberry Choux desert. All very tasty. Visited on Friday, 07/03/2025

It was amazing place .. The atmosphere in the restaurant , the food, the presentation is great. There is a buffet salad bar. There is a lot of variety in the salad bar. If you go without a reservation, it is almost impossible to find a seat. There is free parking and a garden area at the back. toilets are clean.
