About This Pub

You know, I had a wander into the Great Western the other day, and it's got this real old-world charm that just makes you feel at home if you're part of the local crowd. The garden is an absolute gem, especially on a nice day – I can see why it scooped an award years back. They've got a brilliant selection of drinks without breaking the bank, and the fact you can pop in with your own grub makes it ideal for a laid-back afternoon. But, and I have to be straight with you, it's not for everyone; some folks have mentioned getting a frosty reception if you're not a familiar face, which is a bit of a shame as it could put off newcomers or younger groups. Overall, with a solid 4.3 rating from the reviews, it's worth a try if you're after that authentic pub experience, just go in with the right expectations and you'll likely have a cracking time.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The pub has a charming, old-school vibe that's warm and welcoming, especially if you're a local – it's like stepping back in time.
  • They've got a beautiful garden that's perfect for a relaxing pint on a sunny day, and it even won an award back in 2008!
  • Wide variety of drinks on offer, so there's something for everyone, and it's all at an inexpensive price.
  • You can bring your own food to enjoy with your drinks, which is a nice touch for a casual get-together.
Cons
  • It can feel a bit unwelcoming if you're not a regular, with some reports of harsh words or unfriendly stares from the staff.
  • Not the best spot for young folks or first-timers, as it seems more geared towards the locals and might not be as inclusive.
  • No food served on site, which could be a downside if you're after a proper meal with your drinks.
  • Being a back-street pub, it might be a tad hard to find or feel a bit out of the way for newcomers.

A love pub with a great atmosphere and garden, it won great pub garden in 2008 which is impressive. Lots of variety in drinks. It doesn't do food which is fine because you can bring food there and eat it. If you want a relaxed and cordial place then here is your best bet!

This pub could be SO lovely, just a huge shame that the owners are so unwelcoming! Unless you’re a regular, this is not the place to go; you will be “welcomed” with harsh words and nasty stares especially from the assumed owners behind the bar. Also young people: stay away! As soon as I walked in I was looked up and down and asked why I was there, which is utterly disgusting customer service. Avoid.
