About This Pub
Ah, the Estcourt Tavern – it's one of those dependable pubs in Watford that you can pop into for a relaxed catch-up with mates. I have to say, the beers are a real highlight; that Greene King IPA hits the spot every time, and it's clear why folks keep coming back for it. The menu's got all the pub favourites sorted, from comforting pies to options for vegetarians and vegans, and it's just so welcoming for families or if you're out with the dog. Plus, with live sports on the screens, it's brilliant for getting into the spirit of events like the Women's Euros. On the flip side, though, you'll need to queue at the bar for drinks and food, which isn't ideal when things get hectic, and the grub, while tasty, doesn't quite stand out as anything extraordinary. It can also turn a bit crowded on busy days, so it's worth planning ahead if you're after a quiet one. All in all, it's a solid choice for a laid-back evening – not perfect, but it has that warm, community feel that makes you want to return.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The beer selection is spot on, with cracking options like Greene King IPA that's always a treat.
-
They've got a solid menu of pub classics, including hearty pies, fish and chips, and plenty of vegetarian and vegan choices to suit everyone.
-
It's a welcoming spot for families and even dogs, making it feel inclusive and relaxed.
-
Live sports screenings, like the Women's Euros, add real excitement and make it a go-to for match days.
-
The beer garden is a lovely touch for enjoying a drink outdoors on a sunny afternoon.
Cons
-
No table service means you'll have to head to the bar for every round, which can feel a bit of a chore when it's busy.
-
The food is alright but nothing special – it's decent pub grub, though some say it's just average and could do with a bit more flair.
-
It can get quite packed during big events or match days, so you might end up jostling for space.
-
The atmosphere is pleasant enough, but a few have mentioned it feels a tad ordinary and could use some extra buzz to liven things up.

Nice pleasant pub, a short walk from the busy town centre . Quiet when I called. Greene King : IPA, & Spring Break ale.. very tasty and 10% off for Camra
Food is good for a public house.
Beer is very good.
I have been drinking here for many years and had no problems.
I think a lot of negative reviews for the Escourt Arms which is down the road not the Escourt tavern.. which is a dive.
On match days it can be busy.
But if you have a issue they will sort it out.
For all you see including a water, another plate of chips, and all drinks was 40 pound. Would return. Food was hot, cooked well.

Nice friendly staff who provide a good service for a packed pub on a Saturday. It is a decent pub. It shows football and has food.
The food is presented very well and the food is average. I recommend tasting the small plates though, especially the crispy squid and battered halloumi.
