About This Pub

You know, when I popped into the Ellesmere Inn, it just had that genuine, homely feel that you don't always find these days – it's like stepping into a proper local where the staff greet you with a smile and remember your usual. The beer is bang on, served at prices that won't empty your wallet, and there's a real buzz with things like darts, karaoke, and even a beer garden for those rare sunny afternoons in Wigan. It's clear they're all about the community, supporting local causes and creating a welcoming space for everyone. On the downside, though, it doesn't kick off until noon, so it's not the place for an early morning catch-up, and the food options seem straightforward – nice enough if you're after a quick bite, but nothing fancy that would wow you. All in all, it's a solid choice for a laid-back evening; you'd probably love it if you're after good company and a no-fuss pint, but it might not suit if you're seeking something more upscale or with early hours.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • They serve a proper pint with great selection and value – it's affordable and hits the spot every time.
  • The atmosphere is spot on, with a real community vibe, lively events like darts, karaoke, and a beer garden for soaking up the outdoors.
  • It's got a warm, local feel where everyone knows your name, and they even support local charities, which is just lovely.
  • Plenty of entertainment options like Sky Sports and racing, perfect for catching a game or having a laugh with mates.
Cons
  • It only opens from midday, so if you're after an early tipple or a quick breakfast spot, you'll have to look elsewhere.
  • The food seems a bit basic from what folks say, more focused on simple fare rather than a full menu, which might disappoint if you're hoping for a proper meal.

I was walking passed and smelt the beer, had to go for one. I'm not local and made me feel welcome. I didn't eat food but landlord and barstaff were friendly... Nothing else to say on this occasion

The brother's local since he moved to Hindley. Raved about it, now I know why. Wish it was near me. Everything a pub should be, for me anyway. Best wishes to all at the Ellie!

One of the best pubs I have been too, it's the landlord, landlady and the regulars that make it such a lovely pub to spend time in.
