About This Pub

Ah, the Cross Keys in Arnold – it's one of those pubs that really captures the heart of British hospitality, you know? From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, it's a solid spot for grabbing a pint and some tasty grub without spending a fortune. The food stands out, especially those chicken wings that folks rave about – not dry at all, just proper juicy and full of flavour. And if you're into a bit of live music or catching the game, they've got that covered too, with a lively crowd that can make for a brilliant Saturday afternoon. The beer garden's a nice touch for sunnier days, and events like bingo bring in a cheerful bunch. But, let's be honest, it's not all roses; I've heard tales of staff being a tad short or rude, which can really sour the experience if you're on the receiving end. Then there's the issue with kids causing a ruckus, which might not sit well if you're after a quiet chat over your drink. Prices can sneak up on you as well, so keep that in mind before ordering rounds. Overall, it's worth a visit if you're in Nottingham, but go in with your eyes open – it's got that classic pub charm with a few quirks that keep it real.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are generally friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home when you pop in for a drink or a bite.
  • They've got a cracking atmosphere with live music, bingo sessions, and even a bouncy castle in the beer garden – perfect for a fun afternoon out.
  • The food and drinks are spot on, especially the chicken wings which come highly recommended, and it's all at a reasonable price that won't break the bank.
  • It's a great place to catch live sports or enjoy a packed house with a lively crowd, adding to that proper pub vibe.
Cons
  • Some staff can be a bit rude or unpolite, like in that instance with the ID badge, which really puts a dampener on things.
  • There are times when kids are running wild, which can spoil the adult-oriented space and make it feel less relaxing.
  • Drinks might feel overpriced for what you get, as one person mentioned with their £8 spirit, so it's worth keeping an eye on the tab.
  • The atmosphere can sometimes come across as boring or overly crowded, depending on when you visit, so it might not always hit the mark.

Being served at the bar, staff was extremely rude about my ID badge. Very unpolite and boring atmosphere. Don't go here, not worth the £8 300ml spirit drink.

Great pub and staff are always friendly. However, silly people allowing their children to run riot in an adult space is unacceptable. The pub has provided a bouncy castle, and has an excellent outside beer garden...so, make your children behave please.

I stopped in here for a quick coffee and some local directions as this town was totally new to me. It's Wednesday lunchtime and the place is packed with pensioners, one has to clamber over the assembled motability chairs just outside to get in. Lunchtime Bingo..... fantastic. This place has it's finger on the community's pulse. It is well managed despite the need for some repairs, and there are plenty of sports screens and permanent disco lights. A jack of all trades and master of quite a few. Please support. Didn't dine so can't comment on the food.
