About This Pub

Ah, let me tell you about Cosy Club in Chelmsford—it's one of those places that just wraps you up in its warm embrace from the moment you walk in. The decor is something special, pulling off that early 20th-century Sri Lankan style with shuttered windows and big palms that give it a real exotic feel without being over the top. We've got rave reviews on the food; breakfasts and brunches stand out as absolute winners, with folks raving about how tasty and reasonably priced they are, plus it's great to see they handle allergies so thoughtfully. The staff really add to the charm too, being friendly and efficient, which makes for a relaxed time whether you're there for a quick lunch or a full dinner spread. It's spot on for groups, with comfy seating and even a balcony for those sunny days, and don't miss out on the deals like bottomless brunch or affordable cocktails. On the flip side, though, there was that odd mention of the chips not quite hitting the mark, and if you're eyeing up a big gathering, you'll have to plan ahead as they sort those separately. All in all, it's a solid choice for a good night out or a casual meet-up—honestly, I'd pop back in a heartbeat for the ambience alone, but it's the little extras that keep it feeling fresh.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is absolutely charming, with that exotic early 20th-century Sri Lankan vibe—think shuttered windows, ceiling fans, and plenty of lush plants that make you feel like you've stepped into another world.
  • The food is a real highlight; from the best breakfasts and brunches I've heard about to delicious lunches and dinners, it's all well-priced and there's something for everyone, including great options for allergies and a solid kids' menu.
  • Service is spot on—friendly staff with a good sense of humour who make you feel welcome, whether you're popping in for a quick bite or settling in for the evening.
  • It's brilliant for groups, with cosy spots indoors and a lovely balcony for sunny days, plus specials like bottomless brunch or two cocktails for a steal, making it perfect for celebrations.
Cons
  • One thing that cropped up is that the chips weren't up to scratch in one visit, which is a bit of a shame when the rest of the food is so tasty.
  • For larger gatherings over 16 people, you'll need to sort things out directly, which might add a bit of hassle if you're planning something big.
  • It can get quite busy, especially in the evenings or for popular slots like brunch, so booking ahead is a must to avoid any disappointment.

Our experience at the cozy club was amazing. The breakfast was the best I’ve ever tasted and quite well priced too! I would highly recommend!! Also very well accommodating to allergies.

Great place to meet up with friends. Big enough for large groups. But cosy too. Some lovely places to sit on the balcony in the sunshine. Food was mostly great, strangely the chips were not but everything else was lovely and the dessert was delicious. Would go back.

Pleasantly surprise by this place. We had a delicious brunch there. Totally recommend having a Shakshuka! Kids’ menu is a good value. Great flat white for parents. Did I mention the decor? If you are fond of art deco/30s and 40s style, you’ll love the ambience.

Had a lovely family early evening meal here. It was my first time visiting here, and it won't be my last. Loved the whole ambience of the place. Loved the decor and relaxed atmosphere. Service was very good, quick and efficient. We were never rushed, so we felt relaxed enough to take our time. We had booked a 5.30pm table on a Monday. Perhaps a later booking time and on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday may have been a busier period.
