About This Pub
Ah, Coopers Arms, what a lovely little find in Hitchin! I've got to say, stepping into this place feels like a step back in time with its historic beams and that inviting fire, all while keeping things fresh with some modern artwork and a lively atmosphere. The staff are just brilliant, always on hand with a warm welcome and efficient service that really makes you feel looked after. We tucked into some hearty pub classics like burgers and wings, and they didn't disappoint – everything was tasty, well-priced, and hit the spot after a wander around town. Plus, there's a solid range of local ales and craft beers to choose from, which is always a winner in my book. It's dog-friendly too, with a nice outdoor area for sunnier days, so it's perfect if you're out with the pooch. On the flip side, do keep an eye on the kitchen hours; they wrap up early on Sundays, which could leave you peckish if you're planning a late session. And it does get a bit crowded on weekends, so you might want to book ahead for a table. All in all, it's a cracking spot for relaxing with friends over good food and drinks – I'd definitely recommend giving it a go if you're in the area.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The atmosphere is absolutely charming, with a historic building full of character, cosy spots by the fire, and a vibrant social vibe that makes you feel right at home.
-
Friendly and welcoming staff who provide top-notch service, always ready with a smile and helpful advice – it's like chatting with old mates behind the bar.
-
Delicious food that's freshly cooked with generous portions, offering traditional pub fare like burgers and wings at reasonable prices, plus a great selection of local ales and craft beers to wash it down.
-
It's dog-friendly with a lovely garden or outside area, perfect for enjoying a drink alfresco when the weather's on your side, adding to that relaxed, community feel.
-
Convenient location just a short walk from Hitchin town centre, making it an easy spot to pop into for a quick meet-up or a longer unwind.
Cons
-
The kitchen closes a bit early, especially on Sundays at 7pm, so if you're after a late bite, you might need to plan ahead or stick to drinks only.
-
With its popularity, it can get quite busy at peak times, which might mean a wait for a table or that cosy spot by the fire.
-
The menu sticks to traditional pub grub, so if you're in the mood for something more adventurous or fancy, it might not quite hit the mark.

Amazing atmosphere, good and friendly service, delicious food
Absolutely amazing British pub. Old-looking, with character, tasty local real ales and good food. Thank you for your hospitality, Sophia, Ash, Dan — as well as the trainee (apologies I can’t remember her name) who did a smashing job!
Lovely pub a short walk from Hitchin town centre. Decor is nothing if not unique. We popped in for lunch and the food did not disappoint. Decent sized portions and freshly cooked. The menu is traditional pub fare but reasonably priced. Good selection of ales too from local to more well known brands. Definitely somewhere I would come back to if in the area.
Nice pub, good selection of beers and large menu of wings and burgers
What a delightful surprise to visit, Mr Google, you may need to add an extra 🌟 for this one! Just a brilliant pub with great beer and wonderful inexpensive food. Certainly worth a visit if you are near Hitchin. Staff are great, helpful and happy. The building has history all over it, the beams, fire places and all, many hundreds of years old. An absolute delight!
