About This Pub
Ah, Café Vin Cinq – it's one of those places that really stands out in Rugby, isn't it? From what I've gathered, it's got this wonderful mix of French and Pan-European flair, serving up freshly made dishes with local, seasonal ingredients that leave you wanting more. I love how it's tucked away in a historic building overlooking the old Rugby School, with that elegant spiral staircase and antique chandeliers creating such a romantic and cosy atmosphere – ideal for a special dinner or even a wedding, as some have raved about. The bar upstairs in The Aviary sounds like a proper treat too, with smashing cocktails and a relaxed vibe on those late evenings. And the service? Well, most folks say it's spot on, with staff going the extra mile to make everything just right. But, let's be honest, it's not all roses; there was that disappointing review about a steak that didn't quite hit the mark, and a few mentions of other dishes not living up to expectations, which is a shame for a place with such high praise overall. Still, with a solid 4.6 rating from loads of positive feedback, I'd say it's well worth a visit if you're up for something a bit special – just keep an eye on what you order and maybe save it for when you're in the mood for a proper sit-down rather than a quick one.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food is absolutely delicious, with fresh, seasonal ingredients that make every meal feel like a treat – think tasty steaks and mouth-watering desserts that really hit the spot.
-
The atmosphere is spot on, set in a historic building with elegant decor and chandeliers; it's perfect for a romantic dinner or a relaxed catch-up with friends.
-
Service is top-notch, with staff who are attentive, friendly, and know their stuff, making you feel right at home from the moment you arrive.
-
They've got a brilliant bar scene in The Aviary, serving up cracking cocktails and a great selection of drinks – ideal for unwinding on Thursday to Saturday nights.
-
It's a multi-award winner with a solid 4.6 rating from plenty of happy visitors, making it a reliable choice for special occasions or just a lovely night out.
Cons
-
There have been a few slip-ups with food preparation, like steaks not cooked to preference or disappointing sides, which can really let down an otherwise great meal.
-
It's only open in the evenings from around 5:30 PM, so if you're after a spot for a quick lunch or daytime pint, you'll have to look elsewhere.
-
Prices are on the moderate side for a fine dining spot, which might feel a bit steep if you're just popping in for a casual drink rather than a full meal.
-
With the business not claimed by the owners, things like updates or improvements might not happen as quickly as you'd hope, based on what we've seen.

Really nice atmosphere and very pretty design and decor! We had steaks which were nice but cooked to preference! Other than that it was very tasty and enjoyable!
Considering the restaurant has such a high reputation, it was so disappointing to find out they do not know how to cook a Medium/Well steak but more shockingly, how to cook cauliflower cheese. After complaining to the server her response after speaking with the manager their response was “The chef said thanks for your feedback he will do better next time” There was no apology or attempt to rectify the matter so I had to take a picture of the cauliflower cheese to share with you, what do you think?
Cappuccino with wipe cream was yummy very delicious café !
Favorite dessert is the bread & butter pudding was warm tasty and well flavored, melts in your mouth!
The Dubai chocolate cheese cake was crunchy light chocolate mouse with a cranberry blue berry sauce on the side. Definitely would return a must dessert experience.
Fantastic evening at the re-launch of this lovely restaurant. New winter menu with great favourites still on the menu especially the Moules Frites and of course excellent choice of steaks. Decent wine menu and even cocktails. Highly recommend.
We have eaten at CVC many times and always had a 5 star experience with them. Last month we chose to have our wedding with them and if I could give them more than 5 stars I would. The coordinators were there for me every step of the way, all the staff were so kind, friendly and helpful. The chefs are incredibly talented. The bar staff make beautiful drinks. Everyone just bent over backwards to make sure we had the most amazing, completely personalised day! Every single one of my guests said how impressed they were with the food (and some of them are hard to impress) Can’t thank them enough for such a special day. Highly recommend for meals out and events.
