About This Pub
Ah, the Bears Paw – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem in Chester. I was chatting with a few mates about it the other day, and we all agreed it's got that warm, inviting atmosphere where you can relax with a drink and some good company. The bar staff really stand out; they're so attentive and helpful, like when they sorted out the screens for someone watching rugby – it's those little touches that make a visit memorable. You've got a solid selection of beers and wines that hit the spot without costing a fortune, and the pizzas are surprisingly good for a quick bite. There's always something going on, whether it's a quiz night, a game of darts, or catching the latest match on the telly, which keeps things entertaining. On the flip side, it's not smack in the middle of the city centre, so you might have to plan your trip a bit if you're coming from further afield, and the food menu doesn't seem to go beyond the basics, which could be a shame if you're in the mood for something more substantial. Still, it's a solid spot for a casual get-together, and I'd say it's worth checking out for a relaxed evening – just keep in mind it can get buzzing on busier nights!
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and go the extra mile, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
-
It's got a cracking atmosphere with a mix of locals enjoying banter, quizzes, and live events – perfect for a good night out.
-
The drinks selection is spot on, with a great range of beers, wines, and spirits that won't break the bank.
-
Pizzas are a real treat here – tasty, reasonably priced, and just the thing to go with a pint.
-
Loads of entertainment on offer, like darts, pool, and sports on the telly, so there's always something to keep you engaged.
-
Convenient parking and its location near the residential area make it easy to pop in after work or a day out.
Cons
-
It might feel a bit out of the way if you're in the heart of Chester city centre, though it's still handy for the surrounding areas.
-
The food options seem limited to pizzas and perhaps a few other basics, so if you're after a full meal, you might need to look elsewhere.
-
It can get quite lively during events or quizzes, which is fun but might not suit everyone if you're after a quiet drink.

Nice sports pub within walking distance of the residential area, and from the Bache station.
Also has a decent amount of parking.
We went to this pub for a couple of hours. My husband wanted to watch rugby, it was his first outing from hospital in his wheelchair. The bar staff was so kind and put it on the screens for us. It made his day.Such lovely service. Modern, clean pub with plenty of screens for sport with a nice sun terrace. Thankyou
