About This Pub
Ah, the George & Dragon – it's one of those dependable local pubs that Greene King does so well, tucked away on Liverpool Road in Chester. I've got to say, it's a lovely spot for grabbing a pint and enjoying some hearty evening meals; the food really hits the mark, and the staff are always up for a chat, which adds to that warm community vibe. Plus, if you're popping in for a quick stay, the rooms are clean and come with a few nice touches like a telly and a kettle, all at prices that won't sting your wallet. But, and there's always a but, isn't there? It's not all roses – the noise from the main road or the odd karaoke night can rattle through the walls, making it tricky to get a good night's sleep, and the rooms themselves are a tad on the cosy side, which might not suit everyone. Service can vary; some visits are seamless, while others leave you wanting a bit more effort from the team. Overall, it's a solid choice for a relaxed pub crawl or a budget overnight, but I'd suggest checking if it's a quieter evening if you're after some peace and quiet. It's got that authentic pub charm, but like any good yarn, it has its ups and downs!

This was a pit stop on the way home, so we were pleasantly suprised when we got a kettle and a TV in the room, the shower was a good the beds were clean and the staff were friendly. We paid ¥6 for the carpark (not bad really) and had our evening meal in the pub (also very nice) But our room had not been cleaned the bins hadn't been emptied and the tea making facilities were not replenished. Mostly good for the price though. Thankyou for a good rest.
Less a hotel than a pub with rooms. That was fine for me, as I don't normally bother with breakfast, but people need to be aware that there is nothing to eat in the morning.
Evening meals are simply the pub menu, which is good. I had the Cajun Pasta, which was excellent. The pub also had an excellent range of ciders. There is, of course, no reason you can't go out to eat, and it is very central, barely ten minutes' walk to the city wall and the medieval city centre.
The rooms are small but lack for nothing. The bed was comfortable, and the shower wasn't bad. So close to a major junction, I was surprised how well the room blocked out the traffic noise. The decor is very dated, but I don't look at the decor when I'm asleep.
The pub itself offers little in the way of comfort, with very basic furnishings. If you want a more comfortable bar, there's no lack of them in the city centre. I can't complain about the food or the cider in the George and Dragon, and spent a pleasant evening there.
There is a small car park next to the hotel. However, it's not part of the hotel, and costs £6 for the night.
We stayed Thursday night. If you like karaoke then you would have been fine. The sound vibrated the room we were in so much that the cups on the complementary tray vibrated that much we have to move them. The noise finally subsidised at 6minutes passed midnight. Not what we were expecting. There were also other issues with the room which we highlighted to the member of staff. The staff were the best part of the stay as they were very friendly.
Very unimpressed, extortionate prices, wouldn't serve food because the bar staff was on her own but there was only 4 other people in the pub when they supposedly serve all day, refused to make a pitcher drink and would only make a glass with no reason for it and the attitude from the lady on the bar was uncalled for and rude. Made to feel very unwelcome and uncomfortable in our local pub and left after one drink.
Would not stay here again £77.50 for a single room in bank holiday I thought was a good price, until I saw the room!!!
Tiny room, I had to move the bed to be able to get from one side to the other.
It was so noisy as it’s on the main road. No offer of adding on breakfast even though it’s above a pub and no staff there when checking out.
No one told me to just leave the key in the room when I was leaving so had to ring the pub to find out how to check out.
Very unhappy
