About This Pub

Ah, Bar + Block Steakhouse in Bath – it's one of those places that really stands out for its hearty steaks and vibrant atmosphere, isn't it? From the reviews, it sounds like they've nailed the food side of things, with folks raving about the perfectly cooked mains and those tempting starters like scallops and prawns. The team there seems genuinely lovely, always up for a chat and making sure everything runs smoothly, which makes it a top pick for a casual night out or even a cheeky bottomless brunch. They've got some clever deals too, like that £10 lunch option or the new Spanish tapas menu, which add a bit of excitement without stretching the wallet too far. On the downside, though, I've seen a few grumbles about the portions being a bit stingy for the price tag – one person was left proper disappointed with a steak that tasted off and felt more like a snack than a meal. It's a chain, so it might not have that unique, homely feel some folks crave, and prices can add up quickly if things don't quite click. All in all, I'd say it's worth popping in if you're in Bath and fancy a reliable meal with mates, but go in with your eyes open to avoid any surprises – it's got that classic pub charm with a steakhouse twist, just with the odd hiccup here and there.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot-on, with delicious steaks and starters that leave you wanting more – plenty of rave reviews about the flavours and presentation.
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, making you feel right at home; special mentions for servers like Liana, Lilly, and Sam who add a personal touch.
  • They've got some brilliant deals, like the £10 lunch menu and bottomless brunch for £35, which are great for a budget-friendly outing or a fun get-together.
  • It's a versatile spot with options for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and even Spanish-inspired tapas, perfect for a relaxed meal or drinks in Bath's lively scene.
Cons
  • Portions can be disappointingly small, especially for the price, with one experience feeling more like a toddler's meal than a proper dinner.
  • Some dishes might not hit the mark, like a steak that tasted bitter and undercooked, suggesting occasional quality slips that could ruin the meal.
  • It's on the pricey side for what you get, which might not feel worth it if you're after good value, particularly as a chain restaurant.
  • Variability in experiences means it might not always live up to the hype, so you could have a mixed bag depending on the day.

This restaurant is absolute joke, very expensive and baby portion, my steak was bitter ant tasted like never cleaned grill. I can eat only small portions due to health reasons but that was really size of food for 3 years old. Very rarely going to places like that, chains especially because it’s overpriced and not great quality of food. That was my sister 15th birthday and she chose the place. My cooking at home is much better than my experiences with English restaurants-proper scam!

We went for just a couple of drinks before deciding to stay for food. The meal was delicious and presented beautifully. Our server, Lilly, was super attentive and served everything with wit and a smile. Will definitely be returning next time we are in the area!

A. M. A. Z. I. N. G! Maybe because we were loved up... Maybe because we were tipsy... But we really and sincerely enjoyed the service from Sam, our waiter! The food was superb, the beautiful cocktails Alex prepared for us was amazing! We'd travel the 3 hour car journey again, any day, to have another experience like this! Big ups to Bar + Block!!

Absolutely fab and we will be back! Olivia took such great care of us, in fact the whole team did. The portion sizes are spot on, and cooked to perfection. I was surprised by the starters which were absolutely fantastic!! We had the scallops, prawns and calamari and it was super tasty! For mains we picked the tasting platter with 4oz rump, sirloin and fillet. Given the flavour and portion sizes it was such great value and if you're keen to have bigger cuts then chefs can apparently cut to size so an extra bonus! We even had a bottle of bubbles and 2 cocktails (2for1!) and it came to a super reasonable price! Again, lovely team and experience, thanks team.
