About This Pub

Ah, Ye Olde Frigate Bar – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper hidden gem in the heart of Aberdeen, you know? From what I've gathered from folks' chats online, it's got this warm, welcoming vibe that's spot on for a relaxed evening or a bit of a laugh with mates. The staff really shine through; they're described as fantastic with great customer service, always up for a chat and making sure you're looked after, which is just what you want after a long day. The music and banter add to that lively atmosphere, and it's all set in this charming old building that's been around forever, giving it that authentic feel. Plus, the drinks are spot on and reasonably priced, so you can enjoy a few without worrying too much about the tab. On the flip side, though, it's not all smooth sailing – I've heard it can get rammed on popular nights, making it tough to find a spot to perch, and there are tales of it feeling a tad exclusive, like it's more for the regulars if you're not in the know. Oh, and it's not the best for bringing your dog along, which is a shame if that's your thing. All in all, if you're after a traditional pub experience with a good crowd and solid service, it's worth a punt, but maybe pop in on a quieter evening to get the best of it. What do you reckon, fancy giving it a go sometime?

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are absolutely fantastic with top-notch customer service, always making you feel welcome and adding to the fun.
  • It's got a brilliant atmosphere with great music and plenty of banter, perfect for a lively night out.
  • Smack in the centre of Aberdeen, it's easy to get to and has that classic old-school charm as one of the oldest bars in town.
  • They serve up excellent beverages at good prices, so you won't break the bank while enjoying a pint.
  • The overall vibe is really friendly and welcoming, with a fresh feel from recent updates like a new paint job.
Cons
  • It can feel a bit cliquey at times, like it's more for the locals if your face doesn't quite fit, which might put some off.
  • Not very dog-friendly, so if you're popping in with your furry friend, you might have to think twice.
  • The place gets packed quickly, making it a challenge to snag a seat, especially on busier nights.
  • There have been a few reports of rude behaviour from staff or others, which can spoil the mood if you're unlucky.

Great old bar, bang in the centre of town and still serving up excellent beverages.

On first account it was a warm and friendly, wee bar! The owner was a great laugh. The second time round, I found the woman at the door, whether she be punter or manager I'm not sure, just really rude. Not dog friendly, would appear to be a local pub for local people as long as your face fits!

A good old fashioned pub off the beaten track. The toilets are upstairs as is the lounge ( only open Saturdays from 2pm ). More like a club than a pub, great atmosphere. Juke box isnae too loud. Friendly service. Can get very busy so getting a seat is sometimes a problem.

Very friendly. In centre of town, although up a back street if you don't know Aberdeen city centre. Good prices. Recently painted in bar which has freshened it up. One of the oldest bars in town. It has a ghost but he/she is friendly too. Careful you don't get your hair tugged or a tap on shoulder from it!
