About This Pub

Oh, what a gem The Nevison Country Inn is – I've heard from folks who've been that it's one of those places where the food just steals the show, with dishes like the steak pudding coming out as absolute winners, all prepared fresh and sourced locally, which really adds to that homely feel. The staff sound like a right bunch, always up for a chat and making sure everyone feels welcome, and with those beer gardens and a dog-friendly policy, it's ideal for a relaxed afternoon out. But, let's be honest, it's a bit gutting to see it's currently closed, so you might have to hold off on that visit for now, and the lack of clear opening times could leave you scratching your head. Still, once it's back up and running, it's definitely worth the trip out to Leigh for a taste of that authentic pub experience – just remember to book ahead if it's a busy day, as you don't want to miss out on the fun.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is an absolute delight – think mouth-watering homemade steak pudding and burgers that leave you craving more, all made with fresh, locally sourced ingredients.
  • It's got such a warm, welcoming atmosphere with friendly staff who make you feel like part of the family, plus it's dog-friendly with lovely beer gardens to relax in.
  • Being a family-run spot, it offers great value for money, even on the smaller portions, and the rustic charm mixed with a modern garden room gives options for every taste.
  • Tucked away near the Liverpool canal and wildlife spots, it's a perfect escape for a peaceful meal or a pint after a walk.
Cons
  • It appears to be closed right now, which is a real shame as it might put a dampener on plans for a spontaneous visit.
  • Without clear operating hours listed, it can be a bit tricky to plan ahead and avoid disappointment, especially if you're hoping to pop in on a whim.
  • As it's on the outskirts, it might feel a tad out of the way if you're not local, so getting there could take a bit of effort.

We stopped in for lunch, the black pudding stack was amazing. The menu claimed the steak pudding would be the best around, and it was absolutely right! Best steak pudding you can find, absolutely delicious. My mate had the brown cow pie which also looked amazing. The staff were really friendly and there's a nice seating area outside. We didn't have a drink but they had a couple of cracking looking ciders on draught.

Delicious home cooked piping hot food! And very good value for money! And their "smaller" meals are great value too and still a good amount of food! Home made steak pudding is delicious! Also dog friendly and a safe beer garden at the back to let your dog off the lead. Keep it up!

If You See A 1 Star Review Just Scroll Past It (it's probably a jealous pub owner who wants to be as good as this literally perfect place) All Of The Menu Items Are Amazing, The Nevision Burger Is Just GOREGOUS. Like Literally Mouth Watering. I'm Going To Regret Reviewing This Place Because I'm Going To Be Hungry For It 😭 Chips Are Well Made (like really good) Lamb Shank Is Amazing From What I've Heard (I'm going to try it next time) And I've Seen It And I Can Just Tell That It Is AMAZING From Looking At It, I've Been Here So Many Times And I'd Come Back So Many More (and I will.) I'd Rather Have A Lifetime Supply Of The Food From Here Than 1 Million Pounds! The Menu Is Great And The Staff Are So Happy To Help, You Can Tell That They Actually Want To Help You And It's Always Alive In There Rather Than It Feeling Like A Morgue (some places feel like morgues) But This Place Has Always Felt So Alive! (Also some memes cause why not ig)

29th JANUARY 2025. ‘Wandering Wednesday’ this week took Hubster Neil and I to an absolute diamond of a hidden gem….. ‘The Nevison Country Inn’ which is in Leigh, it’s an old untouched Country pub, not many of them left and it like a pub should be, locals stood at the bar and very welcoming.….. I was a little dubious at first looking on their website because of the low prices, in comparison to other pubs and restaurants that we have visited previously….. I was TOTALLY wrong…. The food was out of this World, EVERYTHING served in this little Gem is all homemade and you can really tell the difference, they were the best ‘proper’ chips we’ve ever had and they tasted exactly like my Nanna Smyth used to make….. I’ve found the next best to her chips and that’s saying something🥰. We went straight to entrées; We both had the same: ‘Brown Cow Pie’, with proper chips, the veg was cabbage and sliced carrots, both cooked perfectly al dente. The Pie was packed with thick chunks of braised steak, it fell apart, so lean, no fat at all and it literally melted in your mouth, covered in thick rich gravy and covered with a beautiful short crust pastry top….the plates were full of generous portions. We had a bucket of salt and pepper proper chips to share, along with Pepsi Max to wash it down. The two young Ladies serving us, Milan and Sienna were professional, had impeccable manners, they were rushed off their feet as it was lunchtime but always had a smile, they definitely know their jobs and do it very well. Behind the scenes is a very big thank you to the chefs….. your food is amazing, no room for improvement as it’s already perfect. We have found this hidden gem and will be back very soon, I would strongly recommend you book a table beforehand as the place was full within 10 minutes of us being seated…. It’s up there in our top 5…. So! would we go back?? Without a doubt YES, YES…

100/10 Food! I Had The Nevison Burger (beef) And It Was SUPERB!! As Soon As The Rich Flavour Hit My Mouth It Was Love At First Bite! I've Been Here Many Times The Service Has Always Been Exceptional! And The Food Has Only Gotten Better! Any Review That Puts This Brilliant Pub To Shame Is Utter Nonsense. This Is A Gem. Ty 4 Reading This Aswell
