About This Pub

Ah, The Edington Arms – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local hideaway, tucked away near Hindley train station, where you can pop in for a pint and a chat without any fuss. I've got to say, the real stars here are the beers; that Joseph Holt selection is top-notch, and with all the live music, quizzes, and sports on the screens, there's always something going on to liven up the evening. The beer garden is a real treat too, especially when the sun's out – it's surprisingly nice and makes for a brilliant spot to unwind with friends. On the flip side, though, it's not without its downsides; a few people have had run-ins with staff over little things, like not being able to use the toilets if you're not buying, and the food's nothing to write home about, just basic sandwiches if you're peckish. Still, for what it is – an inexpensive, down-to-earth spot for a relaxed drink and some games – it's worth a visit if you're in the area, as long as you go in with realistic expectations and maybe plan to grab a bite elsewhere first.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The beer selection is absolutely spot on, with a fantastic range of Joseph Holt cask ales and award-winning lagers that really hit the spot after a long day.
  • It's got a cracking beer garden that's a hidden gem, especially on sunny days – perfect for relaxing with mates and soaking up the atmosphere.
  • Loads of entertainment to keep things lively, like live music every Saturday, a midweek quiz, and big screens showing Sky and BT sports, plus a pool table and dartboard for some friendly competition.
  • The staff are generally welcoming and friendly, making it a great spot for a casual catch-up or even popping in with the dog.
  • Handy location right next to Hindley train station, with parking nearby, so it's easy to nip in whether you're local or just passing through.
Cons
  • There have been a few grumbles about staff being a bit unwelcoming in certain situations, like not allowing non-customers to use the facilities, which can put a dampener on things.
  • Food options are pretty limited – mostly just sandwiches, and you'll need cash for them, so it's not the place to go if you're after a proper meal.
  • Some folks have mentioned the brewery could do with an update, and the entertainment isn't always to everyone's taste, like the odd singer that didn't quite hit the high notes.

Called in mid bike ride for a refreshing beer. Very welcoming and friendly staff that helped us sort the bikes in a safe place. Sat in the beer garden as it was scorching out and what a secret place this beer garden is. I never expected it to be so nice. Been back a few times now I know the beer garden is so beautiful. Lovely trees and flowers all around.

I love this pub, it isn't my local but love it when I have the chance to pop in - right next to Hindley train station it's perfect if you have a long train delay or just fancy a nice cold pint after a day at work. The usual top quality choice of Joseph Holt's at great prices. Pool and Darts available, outdoor area and inside is lovely and clean - Sky available as well.
