About This Pub

So, if you're pondering a visit to The Blacksmiths in Loughborough, let me share my thoughts – it's one of those pubs that warms you up with its positives while throwing in a couple of curveballs. The food is an absolute winner; we're talking generous portions of things like fish and chips or Hunter's chicken that taste spot on and won't empty your wallet. The staff are dead efficient and friendly, making it feel like you're catching up with pals rather than just popping in for a drink. They've clearly put some effort into the place too – the refit looks great, and the atmosphere is just right for a relaxed evening or a bite to eat. On the flip side, though, it's a shame about the drink situation; you might find yourself stuck if you're after cocktails or something simple for the little ones, as they sometimes run out of mixers. And don't forget, it can get a bit nippy inside if the heating's playing up, which isn't ideal when you're settling in for the night. All in all, it's a solid choice for good grub and a chat, but keep an eye on those minor downsides to manage your expectations – I'd say it's worth swinging by, especially if you're in the area.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • Friendly and efficient service that really makes you feel welcome, just like chatting with old mates
  • Excellent food with huge portions at reasonable prices – the fish and chips and Hunter's chicken are standout choices
  • A fantastic atmosphere and a well-refitted space that gives off a cosy, inviting vibe
  • Great drinks on offer, including a superb pint of Guinness that hits the spot every time
Cons
  • Occasionally short on drink options, like no mixers for cocktails or kids' drinks, which can be a bit disappointing
  • Heating issues that might leave things a tad chilly inside, especially on cooler days
  • Some variability in what's available, as seen with things like missing mixers, which could spoil the experience slightly

Sunday dinner was good. Unfortunately there wasn't any mixers for drinks!?! No coke or lemonade! So no cocktails or drinks for kids other than fruit juice.

Really good food (quite a long way ahead of other pubs in the area), great drinks and a great pint of Guinness. The place also looks great, they obviously spent a lot on the refit. Would be a 5 star review but the pub was not heated when I visited, like others we spent some time drinking with coats in then gave up and moved on to others that were all heated.
