I had the beef sunday roast which was very nicely presented but beef was like boot leather couldn't cut through it .. veg undercooked and rock hard. Microwave mash. Anemic roast potatoes. Very dissapointing. Menu very limited.
Walked in to be asked do you want serving which I thought was rather hilarious, when getting a drink the rim of the glass was absolutely filthy and looked like it hadn't been cleaned , Very poor Menu choice , filthy menus hadn't even been wiped over . Drink stains on the tables and on the seats, Starters were reasonably ok just over cooked , A regular came in and sat on a table near me and received the 5 star treatment without even stepping foot near the bar so it must be the type of establishment that if your face fits you get 5 star treatment. We over heard a waitress tell this gentleman that lamb shank should of been on the Sunday roast menu but the chef forgot to put it in the over overnight and it will be on next week's Sunday roast unless he forgets again.The mains were cold , the steak and ale pie wasn't even a pie or was a slice that was cold , raw and not even fit for human consumption, the beef roast needs a good sharp knife to get through as it's that tough . gravy haha what gravy more like brown coloured water. Roast potatoes hadn't even got a bit of colour on them. Veg was hard and under cooked. Wouldn't rush back. The managements attitude towards new customers needs to be addressed as she's more focused on her favourite regulars who give her tips at tables. Atmosphere was like a nursing home with no music on and a bar in the lounge. WOULDN'T RECOMMEND TO FRIENDS OR FAMILY. Absolute shambles
We held a 90th birthday party here today and from the very start Izzy and her team were absolutely outstanding; the can do attitude, finding helpful solutions when I had a bit of a moment tethering balloons and even providing candles when I forgot them! Richard was great making sure we had everything set up on the day as we wanted. Everything was seamless, the food was so fresh and tasty and the other staff were so cheerful and helpful. Izzy has such impact running a great happy team meaning that the customer experience could not be improved. We will definitely be back! Book your event however big or small with confidence knowing you are in expert professional hands!
It is an excellent place for a quiet pint or a full family meal. I've been there several times in the day and of an evening and will go again. They also have a range of entertainment events there too.
Another "Down memory lane" pub visit with Flic. Came here a few times back in 1974 - 75 when I lived locally and maybe once about 30 years ago. A J.W. Lees pub with excellent range of their real ales. Had a pint of their autumnal bitter "Bramble". Very good. Great value pub. Beer garden and car parks. Very pleasant visit.
