About This Pub
Ah, Costello's Bar – it's one of those places that just feels like a proper local haunt in Altrincham, you know? I've heard from folks that the real ales are spot on, especially the ones from Dunham Massey, and at prices that won't break the bank, it's ideal for a relaxed evening with mates. The refurb they've done has really spruced it up, making it comfy and inviting, and that outdoor seating on Goose Green is brilliant when the weather's playing nice. The atmosphere can be buzzing, especially mid-week or on a Friday, with staff who make you feel right at home. But, let's be honest, it's not perfect – there have been times when the ales weren't up to scratch due to equipment woes, and if you're popping in with a dog, it might not always go as smoothly as you'd hope if they get a bit lively. Overall, though, it's a solid choice for anyone after a good pint and a chat, just keep an eye out for those little niggles to manage your expectations.

There might be occasional inconsistencies, as not every visit seems to hit the mark based on recent feedback.

Nicely refurbished.
Excellent call ales which are kind to the pocket.
Advertises itself as dog friendly, but a bit intolerent when dogs occasionally bark.
09/03/25: broken compressor meant the real ales were off, however, nothing an Amstel shandy and Inch s cider couldn't fix!
02/11/24: Little Boljngton session bitter 3.7%
19/05/24: had a lovely evening with good friends celebrating a return to Altrincham for the evening. Having lived in Altrincham 1991-2007 I have seen many changes and tonight it was so good to be back enjoying some of the old and some of the new bars and pubs. This afternoon beverage of choice a Dunham Massey own brew: Castle Hill English pale ale 5.5% and Big Tree amber session bitter 3.9%
06/06/23: I've seen some changes in Altrincham since first moving here in 1996, then moving away again in 2007. Costello's was one of the changes in Goose Green, and tonight, having not been in for a while seen change again in the layout, size and direction it's gone.
Just a short walk from the 🚊 terminus serving the full range of Dunham Massey beers. As with all good micro bars it has grown in size - a victim of its own success
Open plan bar with covered outdoor seating on Goose Green. Dunham Massey outlet. ( FIRST PINT OF THEIR BEER WAS DEER BEER...thankfully it improved from there.) Pint of Little Bollington, very pleasant. ..back Feb 2023. Had a refurb. Pint of Lymn Gold. Very good says Jorvic. Back to 5 star.
Unassuming exterior gives way to comfortable bar with an excellent array of real ales from the Dunham Massey Brewery sold at good prices. Great atmosphere on a Friday afternoon, and a warm welcome from the staff.
