About This Pub
So, I've been having a look at the Black Olive in Hartlepool, and it's got that inviting vibe you'd expect from a spot by the marina – think contemporary decor and a relaxed setting perfect for a catch-up with mates over a drink or a bite. The food really stands out; folks rave about the Sunday roasts with fresh veg and tender beef, or those smash burgers that are packed with flavour, and it's all at a fair price that won't leave you out of pocket. The cocktails are another highlight, mixed with real skill and a wide range to choose from. On the downside, it's not all smooth sailing – a few have mentioned meals that weren't quite right, like chicken that was still pink inside, which is a bit off-putting. And service can drag on busy times, leaving you twiddling your thumbs when you'd rather be tucking in. All in all, it's a solid choice if you're nearby, but it might pay to go in with realistic expectations and maybe avoid peak hours for the best experience.

Some meals haven't been cooked properly, like undercooked chicken, which can put a damper on things.

Service can be a bit slow, especially on busier days when you're left waiting longer than you'd hope.
-
Experiences seem a tad inconsistent, with a mix of brilliant visits and ones that fall short.

Went here today ordered the chicken parmo and my partner ordered the slow cooked beef and mash
I couldn't eat the parmo as it was pink on the inside the chef said it was deep fried and cooked properly it was just the veins, but in my experience it didn't taste right and definitely wasn't cooked or they had got bad product ordered in.
My partner said the beef wasn't fresh beef it was store bought in.
The girl at the bar offered to make me another one or something else, but I lost my appetite at this point and just left she also offered me a drink, but I told her I'm driving.
Not a good experience.
My husband booked us a table for mother days (today) arriving just before our 1 o clock reservation we were seated. Bearing in mind not many people were in and tables were already leaving...we waited 10.minute's for someone to come and take our order . And here is the bizarreness of it .... only took our starter choices and proceeded to walk away ... we shouted her back and asked her if she would also like to take our main course too........ for a restaurant that was not even busy no food seemed to be coming out.... Our starters were very basic .. nothing too much... potato skins, chicken wings and 2 x goujons .... it got to a point where there is only so many questions you can answer from. Their tv screens before becoming bored ..... an hour had passed , noone had been to our table to see if we were OK, if we needed anymore drinks or even explain, if there was a delay on food.... my husband went to find someone to see how long the food would be .. no-one in sight....... it appeared the table next to us were also in the same predicament and they had arrived before us ....... after 5 or so minute's we decided to leave over an hour on the premises and nothing to show for it . We won't be back
Second visit for Sunday Lunch for us, and we were not disappointed! Fantastic range of fresh veg, lovely beef that fell apart (and plenty of it too) gravy superb!!. Very good value, staff lovely and helpful, very quick service.
After visiting The Black Olive numerous times for lunch and being overly impressed each time with the menu, we thought we would choose it as a venue for our Annual Family Christmas Meal- and we were not disappointed!
Absolutely gorgeous food full of flavour and portion sizes were spot on. The beef was cooked beautifully and we couldn't get enough of the cookies and cream cheesecake! We were a large party of 21 and each one of us walked out satisfied (and stuffed!).
Staff were all so friendly and kept the evening running smoothly by checking to see if everything was okay- Even the Head Chef stopped by to check in on us! Thank you all. Can't wait for our next visit, we'll definitely be back!
Only popped in for a drink but glad we stayed for food they asked us about Sunday dinner but we opted for 2 smash burgers, jalapeño cream cheese and chicken wings, all food was very very tasty especially the smash burgers, the lady serving was lovely and friendly I definitely recommend a meal hear!
